Tarzan Tarzan is a fictional character, an archetypal feral child raised in the African jungles by the Mangani "great apes"; he later experiences civilization only to largely reject it and return to the wild as a heroic adventurer. Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan first appeared in the novel Tarzan of the Apes (magazine publication 1912, book publication 1914), and then in twenty-five sequels, three authorized books by other authors, and innumerable works in other media, authorized or not.

Tarzan Edgar Rice Burroughs Books

I'm a big fan of Tarzan and of pop up books. Absolutely love this one. Shows Tarzan and his parents. Than Tarzan growing up with the pages. The pop ups are well done.

Tarzan Edgar Rice Burroughs Books Reviews

The ratings given to this book are completely meaningless. They are based on three reviews, NONE of which has anything to do with the title in question (Tarzan A Pop-up Book, 1984). They are all for a piano/vocal/guitar songbook issued by the Disney company to tie-in with its 1999 animated Tarzan feature film - fifteen years after the publication of the pop-up book. Furthermore, both the Editorial Reviews quoted also date from 1999 and are for yet another film cash-in title. And to top it all off, the "Look Inside" feature also turns out to be nothing to do with the pop-up book, but takes you to a 1998 Tarzan coloring book!
Treating reviews and ratings for several different books as if they held true of all of them is seriously misleading to prospective buyers and unfair to publishers. How come a company of 's standing and sophistication can't sort this out?
NB My rating of three stars does relate to the pop-up book, which my children had some years ago. It was okay for their age group, but nothing special.
A wonderful journey through the eyes of an interesting historical time
A classic
One has to realize these books were written almost a hundred years ago and read them with that in mind. It is fiction and Mr. Burroughs, as well as the rest of the world, was still learning about the "Dark Continent". They must be approached as entertainment. Popular media such as the movies and TV have never done right by Tarzan as he was conceived by ERB. I first read these books when I was around 12 years of age. They sparked my imagination then and I can appreciate them now. I hope you can do the same.
I have been and Edgar Rice Burroughs fan for over 50 years, and never read a single Tarzan Book, but have read most of his other books. I am always surprised how even though some of these books were written over 100 years ago, they are still a good read today, making perfect sense even though they were written so long ago. I now know why Tarzan was such a great success when it was published. Mr. Burroughs was a real words smith, and I am reminded continually of words I have either forgotten or never even new.
I highly recommend anyone from 10 to over 70 like me to read and enjoy Mr. Burroughs books.
